FAQs

  • How do I choose the "right" therapist?

Finding the right therapist can be a lot like dating. Each therapist offers a different perspective and approach, so it’s important to do your research upfront and consider what factors are essential for you to feel comfortable. Most therapists understand this process and won’t take offense if you decide it’s not the right fit for you. They may even refer you to someone who might be a better match. If you’re considering setting up an appointment with me, feel free to email or call to arrange a 15-minute phone consultation first.

  • What can I expect in a session?

Sessions are typically scheduled for 50 minutes, although some benefit from additional time. We begin by checking in, deciding together what is significant for that appointment. I will offer structure to direct the session, but ultimately, the time is yours and you are welcome at any point to shape the session differently. It is always my intention to be aware of your experience and needs in a session, and I will work to tailor our time together to what is most significant for you at that time.

  • Do you take insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider, which means that you pay upfront. However, most insurance companies do offer out-of-network benefits coverage. You will receive a superbill each month, including all necessary coding, that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

  • Will I be charged for missed sessions?

I schedule only one person per appointment time, each time slot is effectively closed once an appointment is made. At that point, it is no longer available to anyone else. Because of this, I have a 48-hour notice cancellation policy. If you do not cancel within that time frame, you will be charged a full session fee. If I can reschedule you to another time that week, the fee will be waived.

  • Do you offer teletherapy?

Yes, I provide telehealth therapy services throughout the state of Maryland. While I have limited availability for in-person sessions, my flexible teletherapy options ensure that you can access support from the comfort of your home.

  • Can we speak before I commit to paying for a session?

I am aware of the importance of the therapeutic relationship, which is why I offer a free 15-minute introductory call with all clients before deciding whether you would like to begin working together.

  • What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)?

IFS is frequently used as an evidence-based psychotherapy, helping people heal by accessing and healing their protective and wounded inner parts. IFS creates inner and outer connectedness by helping people first access their Self and, from that core, come to understand and heal their parts.

IFS is also a way of understanding personal and intimate relationships and stepping into life with the 8 Cs: confidence, calm, compassion, courage, creativity, clarity, curiosity, and connectedness. For more information, visit the IFS Institute.
